'Tis the Season

It has been a long time since I have written a post. We have been swimming - Arnie and I have swum in some of the most famous open water swimming venues the world. In April we completed a two-man relay at the Tampa Bay Marathon Swim. In June we swam with the Serpentine Swim Club in Hyde Park, London and I continued on to Dover to join a training session with other EC aspirants from all over Europe.

Now with last weekend's Swim the Suck 10 Mile swim in Chattanooga, I have come full cycle. It was after this race last year that we decided to swim the English Channel. Arnie and I have come along way in our training, but the next three months will be pivotal.

My biggest concern in attempting this channel swim is how well I can acclimate to cold water and my next benchmark is to complete the required six hour swim in 60 degree or colder water before the end of 2011. Now that we are entering the fall in Florida our water temperatures will fall into the 60's  we have perfect training temperatures for Arnie and I to get serious about open water training.

More to follow as we get colder water.

We have a date with the English Channel

When Arnie and I decided to embark on this journey we thought it would be as easy as signing up for the local 5K race. Boy were we wrong. I quickly found out that:

There are 2 governing bodies that sponsor EC swims
They are booked for at least a year in advance.

Well, after many emails and a lesson in exchange rates we now have our date with the English Channel - our window is July 19-25 2012. We have the #2 and #3 slots for this period with our pilot Mr. Eddie Spelling.

Let the fun begin!
